Leaders Inspired by the Discipline of Elite Athletes
On 11 October 2025, professionals and executives joined Nick Jonsson for a powerful virtual keynote hosted by ARTDO International.
The session, Bring Your A-Game to the Office: What Leaders Can Learn from Elite Athletes, showed how the discipline, mindset, and resilience of top athletes can be applied directly to leadership and business.
Highlights from the Session
Endurance & Focus – Nick shared how athletes train to sustain performance under pressure, and how leaders can use the same mindset to stay consistent and sharp.
Consistency into Momentum – Practical insights on turning daily discipline into long-term growth and resilience.
The Role of Recovery – A reminder that recovery is not a weakness, but a vital part of sustainable leadership performance.
Personal Journey – Nick spoke about his own experience as a Top 2% Ironman triathlete, training alongside Asia’s Olympic hopefuls, and the lessons he carried into his career and coaching practice.
The Five Steps to Holistic Leadership™
Nick also connected the principles of athletic excellence to his Five Steps to Holistic Leadership™, offering participants a roadmap for integrating wellbeing and performance in everyday life:
Surrender – Identify habits or distractions that drain energy and surrender them. Whether it’s smoking, doom-scrolling TikTok, or consuming too much TV news, letting go of these opens space for growth and healthier focus.
Purpose – Purpose is not only found at work. Nick encouraged leaders to explore hobbies, sports, and personal passions that give meaning to life outside the office, building balance and fulfilment.
Connection – Healing relationships in your life is crucial for resilience. Connection also means belonging—joining sports clubs, associations, or communities that strengthen both wellbeing and leadership presence.
Goals – Like an athlete, leaders thrive by setting clear goals, creating a plan, and visualising success. Nick emphasised the importance of a vision board to bring professional and personal aspirations into daily focus.
Discipline – Small daily habits are the foundation of long-term success. From consistent training to mindful routines, discipline ensures steady progress towards goals, in both sport and leadership.
Participant Reflections
Attendees praised the keynote for being energising, relevant, and practical. Many highlighted how the blend of sports discipline and the Five Steps to Holistic Leadership™ gave them both inspiration and actionable strategies they could apply immediately.
