Manage Stress, Anxiety and Isolation in the Business World
Brilliantly Resilient
How to Manage Stress, Anxiety and Isolation in the Business World with Executives’ Global Network founder Nick Jonsson
How often do you respond, “I’m fine” when someone asks how you’re really feeling? For many of us, that answer comes out automatically—not because everything is truly fine, but because we’ve been conditioned to believe that admitting otherwise is inconvenient, uncomfortable, or even inappropriate. In a world where professional success is often equated with emotional toughness, sharing our struggles can feel risky. We fear being judged, misunderstood, or perceived as weak.
This pressure is amplified for executives and high-level leaders. In today’s fast-paced business world, leaders are expected to project certainty, confidence, and strength at all times. But behind the polished exterior, many wrestle with loneliness, anxiety, exhaustion, and the quiet burden of never feeling allowed to slow down. When leaders internalize the belief that “strong people don’t struggle,” they deny themselves the very compassion and support they encourage in others.
The real danger lies in avoidance. Suppressing difficult emotions doesn’t make them disappear—it intensifies them. Over time, unacknowledged stress can erode focus, strain relationships, and diminish the ability to lead effectively. Leaders who ignore their emotional health may find themselves disconnected not only from others, but from their own sense of purpose and joy.
Nick Jonsson understands this reality on a deeply personal level. During a major life transition—moving abroad, leaving behind the comfort of familiar faces, and stepping into a new environment—Nick found himself increasingly isolated. With mounting stress and no safe outlet to express his feelings, he slipped into unhealthy coping mechanisms just to get through the day. What felt like a private struggle gradually became a heavy emotional burden.
It wasn’t until the tragic loss of a close friend to suicide that Nick realized the scope of the problem. He discovered that executive loneliness wasn’t just his experience—it was widespread, affecting countless leaders who remained silent out of fear or stigma. This moment of painful clarity sparked his mission to break the silence, open honest conversations, and advocate for emotional awareness in leadership.
The truth is, resilience doesn’t come from pretending everything is fine. It comes from acknowledging our humanity, embracing vulnerability, and allowing ourselves to be supported. By sharing openly and connecting authentically, leaders not only strengthen themselves—they model a healthier, more compassionate way to lead.
