How Thermo Fisher Scientific APAC Strengthened Trust, Psychological Safety, and Sustainable Performance Through Holistic Leadership
Leadership Workshop Facilitated by Nick Jonsson & Dona Amelia
Sheraton Towers Singapore | 16 June 2026
What happens when a team feels truly safe to speak up?
Not just safe enough to participate.
Not just safe enough to share ideas.
But safe enough to be honest.
Safe enough to ask for help.
Safe enough to admit challenges.
Safe enough to bring their authentic selves to work.
This was the question explored during a transformational Holistic Leadership Workshop delivered by Nick Jonsson and Dona Amelia for Thermo Fisher Scientific and PPD’s commercial leadership team in Singapore.
Bringing together business development and sales leaders from across Asia-Pacific, China, and Europe, the workshop focused on one of the most important leadership challenges facing organizations today:
How do we build resilient leaders and sustainable high-performance teams without sacrificing wellbeing, trust, and human connection?
The answer lies in Holistic Leadership.
——
Why Holistic Leadership Matters More Than Ever
Today’s leaders operate in an increasingly complex environment.
Markets are evolving faster.
Customer expectations continue to rise.
Teams are navigating uncertainty, change, and increasing demands.
In many organizations, the focus remains heavily weighted toward performance, productivity, and results.
While these priorities are important, they often overlook the human factors that ultimately determine long-term success.
Physical health.
Mental wellbeing.
Emotional resilience.
Social connection.
Psychological safety.
Purpose and meaning.
When these areas are neglected, performance eventually suffers.
When they are intentionally developed, people thrive, teams become stronger, and organizations achieve sustainable success.
This is the foundation of Holistic Leadership.
Holistic Leadership is the integration of physical health, mental health, emotional health, psychological wellbeing, social wellbeing, resilience, and professional performance.
It recognizes that exceptional leadership is not simply about achieving results.
It is about sustaining those results while helping people flourish.

The Audience
The workshop brought together senior business development and commercial leaders from Thermo Fisher Scientific and PPD representing multiple countries across Asia-Pacific, China, and Europe.
These leaders are responsible for driving growth, supporting biotech and life sciences customers, leading teams, building client relationships, and navigating an increasingly competitive global marketplace.
While their roles, markets, and responsibilities varied, they shared many common leadership challenges:
· Managing pressure and expectations
· Supporting team wellbeing
· Building trust across cultures
· Maintaining resilience during change
· Creating sustainable high performance
The workshop provided a unique opportunity for leaders to step back from day-to-day responsibilities and focus on the human side of leadership.
——
Workshop Objectives
The leadership workshop was designed around five key outcomes:
Building Resilience Under Pressure
Helping leaders strengthen their ability to navigate adversity, uncertainty, setbacks, and change while maintaining wellbeing and performance.
Leading with Purpose
Creating greater clarity around personal values, mission, and leadership impact.
Developing Authentic Leadership
Helping leaders embrace vulnerability, self-awareness, and authenticity as strengths rather than weaknesses.
Strengthening Coaching Leadership Skills
Equipping leaders with practical tools to listen more effectively, ask better questions, provide meaningful feedback, and support team development.
Creating Sustainable High-Performance Teams
Building cultures where trust, psychological safety, collaboration, wellbeing, and performance can thrive together.

The Five Steps to Holistic Leadership
At the heart of the workshop was Nick Jonsson’s proven Five-Step Holistic Leadership Framework.
Step 1: Surrender
Leadership begins with honesty.Participants explored the importance of letting go of limiting beliefs, unhealthy habits, destructive behaviours, and the need to carry every burden alone.True leadership begins when people are willing to acknowledge challenges and seek support.
Step 2: Purpose
Purpose creates direction.Leaders reflected on their values, motivations, and the impact they want to create both professionally and personally.Purpose becomes a powerful source of resilience during periods of pressure and uncertainty.
Step 3: Connection
Connection is one of the most overlooked leadership advantages.Strong relationships improve wellbeing, engagement, trust, and performance.Participants explored how authentic connection creates stronger teams and healthier workplaces.
Step 4: Goals
Using the Limitless Life Assessment, leaders examined eight critical dimensions of life:1. Business & Career2. Finances3. Health4. Family & Friends5. Romance6. Personal Growth, Contribution & Spirituality7. Fun & Recreation8. Physical EnvironmentRather than defining success solely through career achievement, participants were encouraged to create meaningful goals across all eight dimensions. The exercise reinforced a powerful message:
True success is not measured by professional achievement alone. It is measured by the quality of our entire life.
Step 5: Discipline
The final step focused on habits, accountability, consistency, and daily action.Participants explored how discipline transforms purpose into results and creates sustainable long-term growth.

The Breakthrough Topic: Psychological Safety
One of the most impactful parts of the workshop focused on Team Psychological Safety.
Research consistently shows that the highest-performing teams are not necessarily those with the most talented individuals.
They are the teams where people feel safe to contribute, challenge ideas, admit mistakes, ask for help, and learn from one another.
Participants explored:
· Trust and vulnerability
· The cost of silence
· Learning from mistakes
· Speaking up with confidence
· Asking for help
· Appreciation and recognition
· Creating environments where people feel valued and heard
The discussions challenged leaders to reflect on the cultures they create and the impact psychological safety has on engagement, innovation, collaboration, and performance.

What Happened in the Room
The goal of the workshop was not simply to teach leadership concepts.
It was to create an experience.
An experience that would strengthen trust, connection, resilience, and psychological safety among leaders responsible for driving performance across a complex international business.
As the workshop progressed, something shifted.
The conversations became more honest.
The walls came down.
People began sharing challenges they had been carrying privately, often discovering that others in the room were facing similar struggles.
What struck us most was the realization that many leaders had been carrying the same pressures, concerns, and challenges, yet had never openly discussed them.
As people started sharing, they discovered they were not alone.
In that moment, colleagues became more than colleagues.
They became a support system for one another.
The workshop moved beyond leadership development.
It became an opportunity for leaders to build deeper trust, stronger relationships, and greater understanding of one another.
For many participants, it was the first time these conversations had taken place in such an open and supportive environment.
——
Sustainable High Performance Starts with Trust
One of the most important lessons from the workshop was simple:
Sustainable high performance does not start with strategy.
It starts with trust.
When people feel psychologically safe, they connect.
When they connect, they support one another.
When they support one another, resilience increases.
Collaboration improves.
Performance improves.
And teams become better equipped to navigate challenges together.
Trust is not a soft skill.
It is a business advantage.
And it is one of the most important foundations of sustainable leadership success.
