Nick Jonsson Featured on Everything They Don't Tell You: Who Gets the Version of You That Doesn't Have It Handled?

Nick Jonsson, Founder of Limitless, bestselling author of Executive Loneliness, accredited counsellor and psychotherapist, joined Josh Zolin on Everything They Don't Tell You for a conversation about executive loneliness, alcohol dependence, and the conversation that finally let someone in.

Hosted by Josh Zolin, founder of Blue Is The New White, Everything They Don't Tell You is a podcast for growth-minded entrepreneurs and operators. It deliberately avoids surface-level business advice in favour of the mental, emotional and internal side of leadership, which makes it well suited to this subject.

Nick's route into leadership was not conventional. He started as a construction painter in Sweden and worked his way up to running companies across Asia. The drive that carried him there came from a family where working harder was the answer to every problem, and it took him a long way before it took something back.

What it cost was the ability to be honest with anyone. Nick describes the distinction that sits at the centre of this episode: having people around you is not the same as having someone you can tell the truth to. He was never short of colleagues or contacts. He simply had nobody who got the version of him that did not have everything handled.

Alcohol filled that gap for years, until it became the problem rather than the relief.

The conversation also covers something Nick rarely leads with. He lost a friend, another executive, who never asked for help either. That loss is part of why he now works on this publicly rather than privately.

Josh and Nick then turn to what changed, which came down to one honest conversation and what it opened up. Nick has been sober since 2018 and now works with leaders and organisations on building the kind of support that exists before someone needs it.
